What Are Nutrients And Why Do We Need Them?

Do we need to learn what nutrients are – or can we just eat a healthy diet?

You know you should be eating a nutritious diet. You know eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly will let you drop those unwanted calories and live a healthier, happier life. But how much do you know about nutrients? And how much should you know?

The good news is that you don’t have to be a scientist to know the most important facts about nutrients.

Here’s the main one: You need proper nutrition if you want to have energy and vitality.

If you’re living on a fast-food diet, or if you’re skipping the fruits and vegetables that are packed with nutrients, the odds are high you’re a bit on the sluggish side. It’s hard to feel lively if you’re slowed down by fast-food grease.

You also need to know how to get the most nutrients possible. Fortunately, that’s fairly easy: Eat a balanced diet that’s high in heart-healthy foods such as fruit, vegetables, dairy, lean meats, grains and fish. Avoid sweets, fatty meats and, worst of all, greasy fast food.

Again, this isn’t complicated. But it’s not always easy to follow a nutritious and heart-healthy diet. The key is to not forbid yourself from eating even unhealthy foods once in a while.

If you’re a fan of pizza, treat yourself to a pizza dinner once a week. The harm comes when you treat yourself to junk food every day.

You don’t need a degree in biology or chemistry to know the basics of nutrients. You just need a bit of common sense and the willingness to skip that drive-through window meal.

Just be sensible and you should be fine!
